Simón Bolívar was a Latin American revolutionary, general, and politician, the most influential and well-known leader of the wars of independence of the Spanish colonies in America. He is a national hero of Venezuela.
Achievements: Liberated Venezuela, New Granada (modern-day Colombia and Panama), and the province of Quito (modern-day Ecuador) from Spanish rule. Between 1819 and 1830, he was president of Gran Colombia, created on the territories of these countries. In 1824, he also liberated Peru and became the leader of the Republic of Bolivia (1825), formed on the territory of Upper Peru and named in his honor. Proclaimed Liberator by the Venezuelan National Congress in 1813.
